Finality

The point from which a transaction is treated as definitively settled and non-reversible.

Finality is not the same notion on every chain. On Bitcoin it is probabilistic: the transaction becomes safer as blocks accumulate, without ever reaching formal certainty. On vote-based consensus chains, finality is explicit: a block is declared final by a majority of validators.

On layer 2 networks it has two levels: near-immediate confirmation on the layer 2 itself, and definitive settlement on layer 1 much later. A service accepting a deposit on the layer 2 confirmation is taking on that gap, which is standard behaviour for retail amounts.
