Deliberately splitting operations to stay under a control threshold. It is itself a suspicion indicator.
Verification thresholds apply to rolling cumulative amounts, precisely so that splitting has no effect. Five operations of 900 units are not five small operations: they are one 4,500 operation broken up.
The behaviour therefore triggers exactly the review it is trying to avoid, and it is explicitly listed as an indicator in anti-money-laundering frameworks. Not to be confused with the technical splitting of a payout, done by the system to respect a rail ceiling.
