Stablecoin

Digital asset designed to track a currency’s value, generally backed by reserves.

A reserve-backed stablecoin promises convertibility at par with the reference currency. Its stability depends entirely on the quality and availability of those reserves, and on the issuer’s ability to honour redemptions.

For a fiat conversion, the practical difference is price risk while confirmations accumulate. A stablecoin moves little: the rate lock window can therefore be longer than for a volatile asset, and the volatility surcharge does not apply.
